So two ponies walk into a bar... by SeeNotC So two ponies walk into a bar... by SeeNotC
And the bartender says...

The pony on the left (the one with the beer) is Julius. The pegasus on his right is Tiberius. They're best friends. They're also both guard ponies--those aren't space suits they're wearing, they're Guardian Mark II reactive-armor systems.

Tiberius is trying to relax after a long week of patrolling the skies, but the unicorn on the right is hitting on him. She's pretty drunk, drunk enough that she spilled her cocktail. She doesn't care. Tiberius thinks it's annoying. Julius thinks it's hilarious.

The griffin behind the bar is Goldcrest. She owns the pub.

I'm resisting the urge to keep working on this. If I work on it any more it'll never be done.

~30 hours.

Happy New Year. May 2013 be even more awesome than 2012.

You're putting that back where it came from. I don't want it on my shiny oak countertop.

I'm glad you like it! This took me a really long time and it isn't a style I do a lot anymore (though I might try it again soon, we'll see). And thanks a lot for watching!

no prob! yeah, during our conversation on hoikarnage's page I kept wondering about the pic you were using for your avatar, since I could tell it was a small piece of a bigger picture. Even in the context of the bar, Tiberius's right eye is at a funky angle that's not quite resolved (in a good way). Almost like he is taking in the hoof on his shoulder and Julius's snickering at the same time, while actively looking away from the ditzy unicorn.

I'm glad you noticed! Tiberius is supposed to be mildly annoyed that the unicorn is hitting on him, while also wondering if Julius put her up to it. The way I worked out their characters, Julius is the easygoing one, and Tiberius is the super-formal, super-serious one. They're also supposed to have been friends for a long time, and because of their personality difference, they're the type of friends that are always at odds with each other--but usually in a good way.

Wow, this is amazing! I really love it. And the warm colours really make it look like in a bar, or maybe in a pub. Great job.

Interesting art... I do like the design on both Julius and Tiberius (in teh drawing itself I find Julius looking way cooler... about 20% cooler :D)... but this is kinda "adult" for MLP ;P

What exactly do you like better about the sketch? I know the gold plates on Julius's armor didn't come out quite the way I was expecting (they're supposed to make him look cool, but in my opinion they make him look like the Michelin Man).

And "adult"? I guess you could call it that, because of the unicorn's expression. I've seen pictures that are a lot, lot, lot, lot worse, though. Example: I find a cool sketch on a forum somewhere. I look at it and think "oh cool, the artist signed it. And I can actually read his signature! Let's see what other stuff he's done." I google his name. "Oh hey, he has a tumblr..." *click*... "OH. HE HAS A TUMBLR."

Hard to say specifically... maybe it's because Julius is seen in a profile, while Tiberius is showing his back, but Julius' armor seem more fitting... plus, when I saw him, he kinda reminded me of that Schwarzenegger-parody pony who kepts yelling "YEAH" :D

And I didn't meant "adult" in a bad sense... true, I prefer MLP art to stick with its original content, but a tasteful maturity is welcomed (it's a different story to see ponies sucking cock of one another x_x). Generally the bar gave me an impression of some steam sci-fi genre, reminding me of some series placed in a "fantasy" setting which plays homeage to technology around World War II time with different add-ons in the mix.

Oh, and thanks for the Llama ;)

No problem! I think when I switched from the sketch to the colored picture, I erased a lot of extra lines that had been making Julius's armor seem more detailed. Anyway, this is a scene from a fanfic I never finished writing, and the fic was set in a sci-fi Equestria where spells are like computer programs and magic powers lots of high-tech devices.

Ah, seems I wasn't that far-off about that "Steampunk sci-fi" then :)

Glad you like it! It's from my own fanfic universe (the fic is called Under Siege). I have the headcanon down but I don't always have the time or patience for writing, so I decided to draw the story instead. Kind of ironic though, considering how much time I put into this picture :P

One thing I never understood about Fallout, though, is the level of technology they have. It's supposedly set 200 years after a nuclear holocaust in which the vast majority of Earth's population died. That includes nearly all of the doctors, engineers, and government officials who built the old society. And yet it seems like almost all of the survivors are able to pick up a piece of junk from the ground, hit it a few times with a monkey wrench, and suddenly have a working laser gun again. 200-year-old food? Still good. 200-year-old computer? Still works. By all rights, most infrastructure should have rusted away by then. I don't get it. /rant

Well a lot of tech in Fallout was squirreled away in Vaults. The tech they had available before the fall was capable of terraformating planets. Most of the food is irradiated which would keep it from rotting or left by people who left the vaults. Most of the military tech was salvaged directly from military depots or vaults containing military personnel :D That is where the Lyon's Pride got most of its tech (and where I picked up a Big Boy Mini-Nuke Launcher).

If they were so advanced, why not build missile shields? And instead of building lots of individual vaults that only hold a couple hundred people, they should have constructed a vast, fortified, underground network, complete with terraforming devices capable of cleaning irradiated land... I guess I just don't get it. The cold war themes really spoil the game for me.

Well Vault-tec inc. built the vaults and only put the experimental terraformers in a few of them ^^; It was new experimental technology when the vaults were constructed... the devices probably did more harm than good :rofl: Vault-tec was selling the vaults so having a vast network of connected systems would have cut into their profit :icondrevilplz: I think they were banking on not needing to use them anyway... sell the hidey-holes to the suckers and keep the good stuff for themselves :D
I think some of the really horrific monsters in Fallout might be the result of somebody activating their formatter :rofl: That would explain why mirelurker kings look human when mirelurkers are walking crabs... and why centaurs have humanish heads... or the whole super mutant thing. It can't all be the result of radiation ^^;

That kind of makes sense. But also, I think I'm too literal when it comes to sci-fi. I remember a lot of times I'd be doing a side quest in New Vegas and suddenly I'd think "wait, how does this even make sense?"

Well Fallout 3 takes place in DC and you start from an unopened (not really) vault. I found out about the GERTS terraformer from hacking the vault leader's computer :rofl: Vault 101 didn't get one of those ^^;
