Trixie IS the Highest Level Unicorn! by SeeNotC Trixie IS the Highest Level Unicorn! by SeeNotC
OH shit, Trixie's got an FG-42! No, TWO FG-42s! She wasn't kidding about wanting revenge! Everybody RUN!!!

:icontrixiescaredplz: So, I did a ponies-with-guns picture. Originally I was going to draw Rarity, because those machine guns are classy as fuck, but Trixie was such a good little tyrant in the last episode that I decided to draw her with the guns instead.

A little info about the gun: That's a battle rifle developed by Germany during WWII. Basically, Germany's paratroopers didn't have good guns, because it's hard to jump out of a plane with a heavy machine gun strapped to your back. Originally, Germany dropped the troops and then dropped supplies for them to pick up, but this meant their soldiers had to run around the battlefield trying to find their equipment, all while being shot at.

To fix the problem, the German military developed the FG-42, a light machine gun that paratroopers could carry with them when they jumped out of the plane. Link to Wikipedia article: [link]

:D I like it because it's all steampunk-y. DAT SCOPE.

Oh yeah, and the amulet looks totally like the German eagle. [link]

:icontrixiewhatthehayplz: Anyway, it seems like kind of a dangerous world where any two-bit dictator can just buy a magical amulet and take over an entire village, don't you think? How the hell has Celestia stayed in power for so long?

:P Oh yeah, about the actual art. I was originally intending to make this a quick doodle with cell shading, but it turned into one big experiment with saturation. ~4.5 hours.

:iconrarityplz: If you like this, don't forget to +watch!

Sure, her takeover of Ponyville looked eerily similar to to the rise of Nazi Germany, but I still believe Trixie would have more of a Soviet style to her.

Guess I could have given her one of these, they're pretty cool too: [link] Although I like the FG42 design a little better.

If you're gonna give her Red Army weapons, why not go classic and give her a nice gold-plated AK-47?

Because development of the AK-47 wasn't completed after WWII ended. I wanted this picture to have a bit of a WWII theme. Besides, and I like the FG42 design better. Although the next time I draw a ponies-with-guns picture, I'll probably draw one with an AK.

Never heard of the FG42 until now. The MG42, yes.

They didn't make a ton of them, so it's not nearly as well known as other guns like the Luger, the MP40, the Flak88, etc. It was more of a commando weapon, actually. I've only heard of it from browsing the Wikipedia pages on old WWII weaponry.

Awesome episode. Trixie was boss.

Awesome weapon, too. The FG-42 was the one I used a lot in Return to Castle Wolfenstein.

Great pic.

Thanks! After reading Jolt-the-dragon's comment, though, I realized that the guns' magazines are probably supposed to be visible from this angle... oh well :P

just me being gun OCD, but the FG-42 has a more angled handle that is a little closer to the stock, you forgot to put the magazines on the gun (they go in sideways) and its the german falcon.

still, its a good picture

All the pictures I found as references had the magazines on the operator's left-hand side. Since we're viewing Trixie from her right side, the magazines are on the other side of the gun, so you can't see them. But the REAL reason I left them out is because this is the first time I've actually drawn guns of any type and I was afraid I'd screw them up and make the picture look ugly. Lastly, I chose the alicorn amulet symbol for a design because it's cool and looks a lot like the German falcon and it matches the amulet around Trixie's neck. It's also cool to imagine that there might be other evil artifacts made by the same guy, maybe a whole product line of "alicorn"-branded weapons and jewelry.

Anyway, thanks for the criticism! I love it when people call me out on stuff like this, it means I can make my next pictures even better.
